I'm a huge fan of Johnny Cash, while my fifteen-month old daughter is a huge fan of Big Bird and the puppetized thesps of Sesame Street. Needless to say we were both thrilled to find this video that combined our pleasures:

On a side note, my wife and I were talking about what singers we'd like to hear in heaven. I told her that nothing would give me more joy than hearing the velvet baritone of the Man in Black as I approach eternity's gate. If the Almighty is taking requests, I'd like it to be "When the Man Comes Around," one of Cash's last recordings and one of the great Christian songs of all time.

I am a philosophy student, and thus I enjoy a good inquiry into the most important questions about the universe. An answer to one of these monumental and long-standing questions has finally been given: Who would win in a fight between Superman and a Jedi? The article also takes a look at Superman vs. the X-Men, Superman vs. Gandalf, and others. The authors - whose geek credentials are obviously spotless - engage in some specious argumentation here and there, but I think their conclusions are generally correct. I wonder: does this sort of speculation constitute legitimate philosophical inquiry into possible worlds theory?

I hate these things when I see them on other blogs, but this one I just couldn't resist.

For Father's Day I think I want some of these philosopher action figures! One of my favorites is the "Angry Anselm" figure. His motto: "Faith seeking to beat understanding into its enemies!"

Okay, now this is something you have to see to believe. With my philosophy-lovin', sci-fi-readin' tendencies, I consider myself a low level geek. But I don't hold a candle to the bright star of geekdom that these guys represent.

Apparently some Australian researchers have published a study that says having more money doesn't make you any happier. So that's settled, then.

But wait. The Pew Research Center has published another study that says people with more money are definitely happier. What's more, this study basically says that Americans are more likely to be happy if they are (1) white or Hispanic, (2) rich, (3) Republican, (4) married and (5) regular churchgoers. I guess that's why I'm so happy! Well, except for the rich part. Four out of five ain't bad.

Also, a recent study confirmed that 82% of studies are poppycock.
